Welcome to Combitz' place
I've update my University study results so far and now have the last hard slog before being cast back into the real world of work, which can only be a good thing. I'm looking forward to getting back into real projects that will actually be used by someone, I'm a little nervous with the current job climate but then I'd be worried if I wasn't.
Currently studying for a Bsc(Hons)Computer Science I fell in love with messing with computers whilst running a small independent retail chain. Read more in the "about" section if you would like to know the history.
I currently work with ASP, PHP, MySql, MsSql, Ajax, CSS, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop and beginning to get stuck into C++. I develop anything from contract management systems to websites in my spare time and enjoy the whole client/server development process. Now I have a better understanding of coding and computer architecture I have started to look at efficiency in persistent storage for applications, the client/server architecture is fine but the web uses HTTP which is a heavy protocol and I am about to start looking at binary streams in an attempt to remove bottlenecks in distributed applications.
I finished my 12 month placement in Aug 08 at NMBS and helped to create a content management system in ASP and MsSQL for the companies various departments to build and update their own website, it was started by another student and 3 months in I took over the development with the lead software developer. This included a wide area of disciplines, from input filtering, security, finance reports and many more. Although it involved 4 hours travel every day, the staff were helpful and created an enjoyable environment to work in, it was hard work but a great experience and well worth doing as I learnt many methods I had never thought of before.
My proudest achievement was to get the company site listed 1st in a Google search for "buying society". Although many other firsts were achieved, I felt this was the cherry on the cake.
My latest personal project has been in development for over 12 months now and is titled "GBU Wild West." It is a text based web browser game using PHP and MySQL to create a persistent world for players to interact. Based in the Wild West 150 years back, you start as a nobody and have to gain popularity, rank and shooting skill to ensure that you can make your stand and survive the harsh environment. Over the past 2 years I have gained a better understanding of all areas of development and have decided to start it again from scratch if I find the time. I am not sure that the http protocol is the best idea for what I am trying to achieve. Research continues for now.

Started to get the hang of css now and this is my 3rd generation site. I have just finished my placement at www.nmbs.co.uk and will be returning to Wolverhampton University for my final year in Sept 08. Now starts another 13 week trek into the bizzare but logical world of computer science.
Feel free to browse the site, contact me if you have any questions or requests, I get a lot of requests for help and I will always try to offer advice for free if I can help, but if you want graphics, images, or bespoke applications creating then I am unable to offer my time for free. I gotta eat ;)
